What is chip timing?

Chip timing refers to a RF-ID tag or "chip" that is carried by the runner. It is either in a wrist/ankle strap or a disposable sticker attached to their race bib. Using RF antenna and specialized software, the "chip" is read and time recorded as the participant passes the start, finish, and other possible points along the course.
